One Championship Friday Fights 27 and Friday Fight Night 13 Recap

One Championship Friday Fights 27 and Friday Fight Night 13

One Championship had a double header today. In the morning was a muay thai card at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok and in the evening it was a mixed fight card.

I don’t know if this is how One has been doing it, but I like it.  I started watching One before the ‘vid’ but then stopped.  Since roughly, 2019, I haven’t been watching.  So a lot of what One is doing now and who the fighters are will be new to me.  But hey, that sounds exciting.

For example, the bonuses that One gives to the fighters, they announce it in the ring during the post fight ring interview.  I love that.  I get to know immediately if a fighter got a bonus, plus it’s always great seeing their reaction.

I like these double headers and I hope One keeps doing them.

Friday Fights 27 (Muay Thai)

I was only able to watch the last three fights off this card, but they were exciting.  All fights ended with knockouts. First was Prajaban, who knocked out his opponent with a devastating elbow. Then the main event Magnum won via TKO by knocking down his opponent three times in the same round (that’s a One rule).

The main event was Tapaokaew VS Harrison.  Harrison won the fight in the first round with a uppercut N’ left hook combo.  Tapaokaew is Thai while Harrison is Australian; When foreigners fight against Thai fighters, they’re boxing tends to be better which works well against the traditional muay thai stance where their hands are more spread out to block the round house kicks.  This leaves them open for punches straight down the middle like the uppercut.

Great fight, can’t wait for the ONE Fight Night later today.  I’m digging these double headers. I wish they were on Saturday or Sunday though.

Friday Fight Night 13

Due to my schedule I wasn’t able to watch the entire fight card, but what I did wat was absolutely entertaining. This fight card was a mix of muay thai, mma, grappling, and kick boxing.  I think One does this because their roster isn’t big enough to be a pure mma promotion.  If you look at their rankings it, One only does the top 5 while UFC does top 15 in each weight class. I’m not against the mixed fight card format as long as its entertaining, and this card was.

The first fight of the night was Sangiao VS Baatarkhuu in mma.  Baatarkhuu won by kimura in the 2nd round.  Also, he works as a miner for half the year and fights the other half.  You know dude is tough as nails.

The most entertaining fight of the night was an mma fight between Marcus Almeida, a 17 time BJJ world champion, and Oumar Kane Senegalese wrestler.  This was a heavyweight match and it was fast paced from the get go. It was so fast paced that both guys were gassed for the rest of the fight.  There were moments where both guys weren’t doing much because they were that exhausted.  Can’t blame them, heavyweights aren’t known for their cardio. Anyway Kane wins by unanimous decision, and he is so tired that he is having troubles answering the post fight ring interview.  He shot up though when he got that 50k bonus.

And, the last fight I was able to see was John Lineker VS Kim Jae Woong in an mma bout.  This was also a very electric fight.  Both guys were throwing hands with he hands, but Woong was winning the fight.  I would have given him the unanimous decision, but with 4 seconds left on the clock Lineker got the knockout win.

This fight as well as all the other fights I saw were very entertaining.  I’m looking forward to the next One event.
